New Multilateralism and the Role of the European Union

This is a closed event

In 2020, the United Nations will discuss the reform of the multilateral system and the EU will define its external agenda for the next five years. The European progressive family has a particular historical responsibility to shape this debate and has key representatives in high-level positions in Europe and the world to aid this cause.

In the frame of the project entitled NEW MULTILATERALISM AND THE ROLE OF THE EUROPEAN UNION, the virtual roundtable on 16 June will connect progressive policymakers and high-level experts from Europe and the world and will encourage a constructive debate on progressive solutions to reform the multilateral system and discuss concrete proposals to address global challenges in the areas of health, finance, trade, climate change and energy, peace & security and migration & asylum.

The event is part of a series of expert meetings that will ultimately feed into a report which is going to be published. This report will offer concrete recommendations on how the multilateral system could be reformed in an inclusive way to address global challenges that require united, global action.

The project is organised by the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) in cooperation with the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung New York Office (FES NY), the Foundation Jean Jaurès (FJJ), the Centro Studi di Politica Internazionale (CeSPI), and the Fundación Pablo Iglesias.
