7th Barbara Prammer Symposium: For a Gender-sensitive COVID-19 Responses

Turning a crisis into an opportunity for feminism

On the occasion of the 7th edition of the Barbara Prammer Symposium, FEPS together with the Karl Renner Institute, the SPÖ-Bundesfrauen and the Parliamentary Group of the SPÖ will focus on the political stakes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic from a gender perspective. As women's rights had already been confronted with a previous backlash prior to the current crisis, the current situation has only further exacerbated this reality. At the same time, the crisis demonstrated that public social infrastructures are essential for a well-functioning society. This event will therefore focus on work programs to fight rising female unemployment, precariousness and how they interplay with the unequal distribution of care work. If we want to prevent the already predicted scenario that COVID-19 will erase years of progress towards women’s rights and gender equality, it is high time for strong gender-responsive measures not only to guarantee women's rights but also to foster resilience and regenerative societies and economies at large.

Participants need to register writing to the following address: veranstaltungen@spoe.at. If participants wish to participate in the interactive workshop on “Inequality in the care economy” (12:15-12:45) it should be mentioned when registering so that they can be added to the breakout room.
