The security-migration-development nexus revised: a perspective from the Sahel

The Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), in cooperation with the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and with the support of the Global Progressive Forum (GPF), are co-organising a an international conference focusing on 'The security-migration-development nexus revised: a perspective from the Sahel’. The international conference will be held on 11 December 2017 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The event will gather together representatives from the countries and institutions of the region, African Union and international community, African, European, US and other international experts. The points raised during the event will be used by the co-organizing partners (NDI, FEPS and IAI) to produce policy recommendations for EU and the US to be presented to pertinent actors, institutions and partners.

The conference constitutes a part of a wider research project that aims to reconceptualise the existing links between migration, development and security in the Sahel, a region where this nexus is particularly pronounced. The research that will be presented during the event, and which will also form part of a publication to be presented in the beginning of 2018, also seeks to recast EU and US policies in these domains and analyse the opportunities and challenges facing the transatlantic partners in the region.
