Call to Europe Budapest: towards a more gender balanced EU?

100th Anniversary of Women Suffrage Conference

2018 marked the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in many European countries. And yet, there is a lot still to do to achieve gender equality, notably in the world of politics. As we are approaching the European elections in May 2019, it is necessary to think not only about having as many women as possible in the next European parliaments but also to make the voices of women heard to shape European policies.

To that end, this conference is thought to contribute thinking about two core issues: 1) what have been the main improvements and challenges for women’s participation in politics; as also 2) what social democrats can do in the run up to the EP elections in 2019 to achieve genuine gender-equal representation.

We hope the conference will be a moment to reflect on how to avoid waiting another 100 years for men and women to share career, care work and housework equally and without being forced into a role or a specific task because of his or her gender.

This Call to Europe Event is co-organised by the Foundation for European Studies, Fondation Jean-Jaurès and Táncsics Mihály Alapítvány, and in cooperation with Gender Five Plus.
