What is the European Dream? - FEPS Future of Europe debate series
Online conference from 11 am.
European Commission Vice-President for Interinstitutional Relations and #Foresight, Maroš Šefčovič, participating as Keynote Speaker
The American dream. Everyone knows this concept. According to the American national ethos, everyone in the US has the chance to make their own luck regardless of ethnicity, social background, skin colour, or religious affiliation. As the US Declaration of Independence proclaims, everyone has the right to the pursuit of happiness.
This concept of the American Dream was the departure point of reflection by the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) and Policy Solutions with the objective of answering the following question: is there a European Dream? And if so, what sort of hopes and expectations do European citizens have for the future?
This latest report by FEPS and Policy Solutions offers insights to answer this question with the ambition to contribute with progressive thinking and ideas to the Future of Europe debate and conference launched by the European Unions’ (EU) new political mandate (2019-2024) that set out a new push for European democracy as one of its key priorities.
The results of this extraordinary research is based on a comprehensive survey conducted in 14 EU countries with over 14,000 survey respondents offering thus a representative view as to how European citizens value Europe as a political project and what they expect from Europe in addressing the most pressing contemporary challenges and where it has to strive for more.
