Turkish Diaspora in Europe: Integration, Migration and Politics
Webinar, Wednesday, 10 February 2021, 16.00-17.15 CET via Zoom
Select experts will discuss the findings and political relevance of our recent public opinion survey of the Turkish diaspora in four European countries: Germany, France, and Austria and The Netherlands. More than 5 million people of Turkish descent live in Europe outside Turkey itself. The polling report, authored by Max Hoffman, Alan Makovsky, and Michael Werz, casts light on the Turkish diaspora's views on European host countries: how they identify with Turkey, and how they perceive crucial issues of integration, migration, and politics.
The webinar is organised by the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) in cooperation with the Center for American Progress (CAP) and the Fondation Jean Jaurès (FJJ).
Speakers:
Max Hoffman, Director, National Security and International Policy, Center for American Progress, United States
Nacho Sánchez Amor, Member, European Parliament; Rapporteur for relations with Turkey, Spain
Asli Selin Okyay, Senior Fellow for migration and border management, Istituto Affari Internazionali, Turkey
Thomas Schmidinger, Political Scientist and Social and Cultural Anthropologist; Lecturer, University of Vienna, Austria
Moderation: Hedwig Giusto, Senior Policy Advisor for Migration, Editor in Chief of the Progressive Post, Foundation for European Progressive Studies, Italy
